Table lamp ‘Bambi’ by Floris Fiedeldij (Sold)
This rare modernist table lamp was designed in 1956 by Floris Fiedeldij and produced by Artimeta in Holland. Fiedeldij’s original design can be used as an adjustable desk lamp but can also be installed as a wall lamp. By moving the rod supporting the shade back or forward in the black foot you can adjust the height and angle of the lamp easily. The perforations in the head make for a nice spreaded light effect. In good vintage condition. We have a also a black Bambi lamp available.

On January 29th of 1921 Dutch designer Floris H. Fiedeldij was born in the free haven of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam Fiedeldij began his career as a graphic designer in advertising. He then worked for various design agencies in the Netherlands and abroad before joining Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum in 1953. He worked as a designer for the company for almost 50 years, creating numerous designs for ceramics and tiles. He is best known for his work with the Dutch company Artimeta, where he created modern, abstract designs inspired by art movements such as De Stijl and Bauhaus. One of his most famous lamps is his ‘Tivoli’ floor lamp and the Bambi desk lamp. His designs were often characterized by the use of simple geometric shapes and bright colors. He has also worked in other areas, including furniture, exhibitions and interior design. Fiedeldij has won many awards during his career, including the prestigious Dutch Design Award in 1996. He has also been recognized for his influence on Dutch design and was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau in 1998. He passed away on September 3, 2004, in Baarn, Netherlands.
