Velvet art deco easy chair, France, 1930s
This easy chair was designed and produced in France in the 1930’s. The style of this piece combines geometric rigor and clean lines with a contrasting high-end yellow velvet upholstery. The flat, bold, block type of wooden trim framing the arms is a signature trait for the art deco period of the late 1920s and the 1930s. The deep structured seating profile with a slightly reclined back is typical for the French club chairs that were popular in this golden era of furniture design. This chair was completely re-upholstered in yellow ‘Almobis’, a 100 percent natural cotton velvet, made in Italy. The frame and springs have been checked, foam renewed where necessary. In excellent condition.
