Compose your own wall unit
At Meteor Gallery you can really compose the wall unit of your dreams. We make it possible to combine wall rails or standing poles, shelves and cabinets into a unique system. A wall unit according to your desired dimensions that has every feature you need. We also give you the possibility to expand a system that you bought earlier with us or at Nome Furniture. Not only for the Royal and Cado systems by Poul Cadovius, but also for the Webe wall units designed by Louis Van Teeffelen and other systems.
Poul Cadovius
Often imitated, never duplicated…
The Cadovius Royal wall unit system has often been copied, but the quality and appeal of the original was never matched by any of its competitors. At Meteor Gallery you can not only find the rare original midcentury teak elements , you can also compose your own complete system. This page an introduction and step-by-step guide to help you select the wall unit of your dreams!

A piece of history…
In 1948 Poul Cadovius (September 1911 – March 2011) launched his ground breaking Royal system as one of the world’s first wall-mounted furniture systems to save floor space, back then a revolutionary idea. “Most of us live on the bottom of a cube”, Cadovius claimed. “If we put the walls even with the floor, we get a lot of space to live on”. Originally educated as an upholsterer, Cadovius was most interested in design. He patented over 400 designs in his life, from dining chairs to mushroom shaped bus stands.
In the 1960’s Cadovius came up with another line of wall units: the Cado System, with wooden corners supporting the shelves in stead of metal brackets. Since 1967 this luxurious line was produced in Cadovius own ‘Cado’ factory that he took over from France and Son. Although this was one of the first teak production facilities of industrial size in Denmark with over 300 employees, Cado became a household design name and the company worked with some of the country’s most famous designers like Arne Vodder, Grete Jalk and Finn Juhl.
Cadovius’ systems are elegant, yet still quite affordable. The fact that the original elements from the 1950’s, 60’s and even late 1940’s still look so very good, are living proof that Cadovius only upheld the best quality standards. It should not surprise anyone his Royal System won the gold medal at the Finland Furniture Fair in 1950 and the silver plaque at the XI Triennale di Milano in 1957. Both the Royal and Cado system remained a hallmark of midcentury modern design up to today.
Pick and match
At Meteor Gallery you can compose a complete system or expand an existing system you bought from us in the past. We would be very happy to welcome you in our showroom to see all the available pieces. If you’re a design or interior professional, we can assist you or your client to choose all the elements for a wall unit for any of your projects.
Wether you need an illuminated bar element for a grappa collection, a minimalist vinyl cabinet with a sturdy board to set up your record player or an extendable desk table with matching library for your son’s study room: the possibilities are endless. En plus, this is a modular system, allowing you to re-arrange the composition in a matter of minutes whenever you feel like it.
The real deal
The items we sell are not new, they are all vintage. We hunt these wall units down all over Europe to find the best elements for you.
The presence of traces like small marks or light scratches are not necessarily regarded as flaws, but rather as an authentic testimony of the previous life these elements have already had. All the elements we offer are cleaned thoroughly, checked and if needed, restored so they can successfully start a second life while being used on a daily basis, for decades to come. The restoration process is meant rather to retain than to erase the patina that makes these elements stand out from newly produced wall units.

How to start?
We have a wide array of rails, shelves and dozens of cabinets to choose from.
Still undecided? We also offer pre-composed systems that might tick all of your boxes. Want to add an extra cabinet, shelves or rail? Just ask us and we’ll help you out!
Measure the available space (width, depth and height) for your project.
Take pictures of the room and the measurements of any element that needs to be incorporated (like a tv set, an electricity socket or radiator) can be very helpful.
Make an appointment to visit our showroom or send us pictures or a link to a wall unit you like. Then we can build you something similar, send pictures of the elements we can offer you or organise a video call to show you everything in detail.

Louis Van Teeffelen wall units
For those who want something a little different.
Not as internationally well known as the Cadovius Royal system, but definitely growing in popularity are the wall units drawn by Louis Van Teeffelen. This Dutch designer was the chief designer for the Dutch furniture company Wébé from 1955 till 1967. He was inspired by Danish designers and came up with his very own wall unit system in 1958. A system that is not only versatile and modular but also easy to put together. You can install the system “with nothing more than a coin”, boasted the information leaflets at the time.
Each element is measuring 85 cm in width and can be combined into a modular system that can be arranged as desired. Van Teeffelen’s attention to detail quickly becomes crystal clear: just look at the way the shelves are rounded on the edges, the smile-shaped handgrips and the excellent quality of teak veneer used on all elements. The poles are made in black-stained limbawood, a West-African hardwood that is versatile, lightweight, strong and easy to work with. All the elements we sell are vintage and produced in the 1950’s and 1960’s in the dutch factory Wébé. Not all elements still bear the blue Wébé logo but we can guarantee the origin having seen already hundreds of shelves and cabinets. We also clean, check and, if necessary, restore each element that passes through our hands.

Talking about high attention for detail
The brass screws under the legs and all the brass brackets can be adapted individually to make sure every part of your system is always level. Contrary to Cadovius, Van Teeffelen used real full brass on the brackets to attach each shelf and cabinet. The metal never gets dull by cleaning and can even be polished to make it look brand new again. We prefer to keep some of the patina though.
We always have several options when it comes to picking the right cabinets, shelves and poles. Just let us know what dimensions would be ideal for your project and what functions need to be included. Do you need a wall unit with bar cabinet? Want a place to study including some drawers for pens? Or do you need a foldable table with shelving options to furbish a small studio? We got you covered! Just send us an email with some information and we can send back pictures of suitable and available elements. Even a live video call to pick out the right elements is possible. We give you the possibility to even expand your system* in the future in case you need extra shelves, poles or cabinets.
*This is an option we preserve for clients that bought a system from us or from our former colleagues from Nome Furniture.
