Set of 6 sculptural dining chairs designed by Mario Marenco and produced by Mobil Girgi in Italy during the 1970s. These chairs feature a solid beechwood curved backrest and frame and a contrasting black leather seat, combining a striking modernist shape with comfort. The exposed joints are typical for Marenco’s work, underlining the craftsmanship and structural openness. Minor wear consistent with age and use with small scratches on the upholstery. Overall these examples of Italian modernism are in very good condition.

Mario Marenco (Foggia, September 9, 1933 – Rome, March 17, 2019) was an Italian comedian, humorist, actor, television author, and architect and designer. He graduated in architecture in 1957, in Naples, later obtaining 5 research fellowships in Stockholm and Chicago. In 1960 he opened his own architecture and design atelier: Studio DEGW, based in Rome.
Marenco became famous in the Italian media as an actor after he was launched by Renzo Arbore and Gianni Boncompagni with the radio show ‘Alto Gradimento’, that led to the even more succesfull humorous tv show l’Altra Domenica (Another side of Sunday) broadcasted on Rai 2 in the 1970s.
His acting career was quite much overshadowed though by his succes with industrial design: the aluminum chandelier ‘Cynthia’ with references to Op art, distributed in 1960 by Artemide, the 1970 ‘Marenco’ sofa, a modular seating system designed for Arflex and the Movie armchair, since 1984 in the catalog for Poltrona Frau. Marenco also collaborated with the most important Italian car manufacturers like Fiat Alfa Romeo and Lancia in the creation of their exhibition stands at the Motor fair in Bologna. He also designed watches for Fiat and Ferrari. Marenco died in 2019 at the age of 85.
