Sideboard by Walter Wirz (Sold)
This compact sideboard in teak was designed by Walter Wirz and produced by Wilhelm Renz in Germany in the 1960’s. The teak body rests on rounded legs in solid oak. It has 2 teak sliding doors with the round handgrips, typical for Wirz’ sideboards. The height of the shelves inside can be adjusted. On the back and inside there are labels from the manufacturer. Some discoloration on the top. For the rest in good condition, as shown in the pictures.

Zurich born Walter Wirz (1947) studied at the city’s School of Applied Arts before becoming a designer for different companies. In 1950 he founded his own design studio, Studio Walter Wirz, which rose to fame as one of the leading Swiss design firms.
Wirz’ designs are simple yet elegant, his minimalist approach was influenced heavily by the Swiss modernist movement. He made not only furniture but designed also logos, posters and packaging for Swiss brands like watchmakers Rolex and Omega.
His work was awarded multiple times, he received the Jan Tschichold Prize in 1988 and the Swiss Design Prize in 1991. He has also been professor at several art and design schools in Switzerland and abroad.
When Walter Wirz passed away in 2014 at the age of 95, he left behind a legacy in the world of design.
