Set of 2 armchairs ‘FM60’ by Radboud van Beekum (Sold)
Set of 2 Cubic Chairs ‘FM62’ designed by Radboud van Beekum and produced by Pastoe in the Netherlands in the 1980’s. This sleek chair boasts a black powder-coated steel frame, with a saddle leather seat and backrest that excels in elegance and comfort. Though inspired by the De Stijl period of the 1930s, this geometric chair looks rather timeless. One of the chairs has been re-upholstered about a year ago. Both chairs have some small signs of wear but are in overall good condition.

Radboud van Beekum (1950-2020) was a versatile Dutch designer who made a name for himself as a furniture designer, architectural researcher, and author. He drew his inspiration from the legendary designs of Gerrit Rietveld and the De Stijl movement. Van Beekum, trained at the prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam began his career as a furniture maker. His creations breathe the spirit of Rietveld, like a painter learning brushstrokes from the great masters before forging his own unique path. Van Beekum crafted furniture for both private clients and various organizations, including the Anne Frank House. His Cubic Chair won the prestigious Triennale prize for furniture design in Poznan, Poland in 1980. At the renowned design agency Total Design, he created, among other things, the counter furniture for Dutch post offices and exhibitions in the galleries of the Rijksmuseum and the Palace on the Dam. He also drew interiors from 1997 till 2003 for the architectural firm Zaanen & Spanjers, including the interior of theatre The Meervaart in Amsterdam. He died from a heart atttack on the 13th of april in 2020. He just helped with the relaunch of the FM60 chair, now recognised as one of the most iconic chairs in Dutch design.
