Sofa ‘MB18’ by Jan Van Grunsven
This very rare ‘Scissor settee’ was designed by Jan Van Grunsven in 1955 and produced by UMS Pastoe in the Netherlands. The MB18 was made in Utrecht as part of the Combex series when Van Grunsven was working for architect Gerrit Rietveld. The frame is made of laminated layers of plywood. The wood is in good condition. The chair was very recently re-upholstered in Melvin by Buvetex, a mousegrey, very soft yet very wear-resistant mélange of polyester and cotton. We have also the burgundy Scissor chair FB18 by the same designer available as well.
