Side chair ‘FB18’ by Jan Van Grunsven
This rare ‘Scissor chair’ was designed by Jan Van Grunsven in 1955 and produced by UMS Pastoe in the Netherlands. The FB18 was made in Utrecht as part of the Combex series when Van Grunsven was working for architect Gerrit Rietveld. The frame is made of laminated layers of plywood. The wood is in good condition. The chair was very recently re-upholstered in the burgundy red ‘Eden’ by Buvetex, a very soft yet wear-resistant wool mélange. We have also the even rarer mousegrey MB 18 Scissor sofa by the same designer available as well.
