Set of 7 ‘Cesca’ dining chairs by Marcel Breuer (Sold)
This set of 7 ‘Cesca’ dining chairs, designed in 1928 by Marcel Breuer, was produced in Italy in 1985, probably by Knoll. It’s uncertain these were made by Knoll or copies, as the design of the Cesca chair is the most copied chair in the world and Breuer never registered copyrights on this chair. These cane chairs have the right details though, the beech wood is put smoothly together on the corners. The weave of the cane is worked carefully into the frame and the tube ends are welded and not closed with a plastic cap. The chrome steel feels cold to the touch and the whole construction is very solid. There’s also an imprint ‘made in Italy’ and ‘12/85’ under the seats. Some using marks on the edges and small stains on the tubes, but overall the whole set is in a very good vintage condition. There’s no gliders under the steel frames, but these can still be ordered online.
