Large sideboard by Walter Wirz (Sold)
This xl sideboard in stained walnut was designed by Walter Wirz and produced by Wilhelm Renz in Germany in the 1960’s. It has 2 white sliding doors, that have been repainted in the past. The steel legs give this sleek boy an airy feeling. The drawer compartiment is separate from the sliding doors cabinet and can be put on the left or right hand side. A few signs of the past but in a good restored condition. Carries the original Renz maker’s label on the inside. We have also two floating wall shelves by the same designer for sale.

Zurich born Walter Wirz studied at the city’s School of Applied Arts before becoming a designer for different companies. In 1950 he founded his own design studio, Studio Walter Wirz, which rose to fame as one of the leading Swiss design firms.
Wirz’ designs are simple yet elegant, his minimalist approach was influenced heavily by the Swiss modernist movement. He made not only furniture but designed also logos, posters and packaging for Swiss brands like watchmakers Rolex and Omega.
His work was awarded multiple times, he received the Jan Tschichold Prize in 1988 and the Swiss Design Prize in 1991. He has also been professor at several art and design schools in Switzerland and abroad.
When Walter Wirz passed away in 2014 at the age of 95, he left behind a legacy in the world of design.
