Dry bar by Johannes Andersen
This Danish dry bar was designed by Johannes Andersen and produced by Skaaning & Søn in the 1960’s. The clean, elegant lines and round rosewood inlays make this bar a fantastic feature in almost any mancave, restaurant or guesthouse. The seating side offers a solid brass footrest and beautiful rosewood inlays. The top of the serving side can be opened up to unfold a workstation with bottle holders and glass trays for glasses and utensils. Further down there’s more storage space behind the sliding door and another bottle holder behind the bottom-hinged flap down door. In total 18 bottles can be stored in this dry bar. Some small using marks but overall in very good condition.

‘Smooth, organic and human centered’ with these 3 qualities you could describe the designs by Johannes Andersen. This Danish designer was born in 1903 in Aarhus, Denmark. His life is not very documented and his designs align more with the second generation of Danish designers like Ib Kofod Larsen, Arne Vodder , Grete Jalk and Sven Ellekaer, who were all born later, in the 1920’s.
He apprenticed as a cabinet maker from 1920 till 1922, studied architecture and later opened up a design studio of his own in the mid 1930’s.
Andersen collaborated with Scandinavian companies like CFC Silkeborg, Uldum Mobelfabrik and Trensum in Sweden. His designs were focused on arganic curves, softened edges and fluid silhouettes, just look at his ‘Smile’ coffee table (1957) , one of his most famous designs with a magazine shelf representing a human smile. The year 1957 was important for Andersen as his designs for George Petersen, Hovedstadens Mobelfabrik and Jensen & Lykkegaard were showcased at the Fredericia Furniture Fair and got published in design magazines in the US where the new Danish style became the new trend. Also his ‘Capri’ sofas were a notable series, for their sweeping curves and elegance.
Andersen died in 1991 leaving behind a catalogue of beautiful design pieces.
