Dining set by Otto Wagner for Thonet
Complete vienna style dining set, designed by Otto Wagner for Thonet, consisting of six elegant armchairs and an extendable oval dining table. The dark stained mahogany chairs ‘model 6526’ with perforated backrests, brass fittings, and seats in brown leather were designed originally around 1900 but this edition was produced in Thonet in 1988. The chair is a direct variant of the iconic seating Wagner created for the Vienna Postal Service Bank (Postsparkasse), which is widely considered one of the most important landmarks of Vienna Secessionist architecture. All chairs have the Thonet logo on the liner underneath and a Thonet ’88 imprint under the frame. Some small signs of a previous life as shown in the pictures. Table top has been refinished. Upholstery on the seats with minor signs of wear but overall in excellent restored condition.
