Dining chairs ‘Z-chair’ by Ernst Moeckl
Set of 4 Space Age ‘Kangaroo’ or ‘Z- chairs’, designed by German designer Ernst Moeckl and produced by Horn Collection in West-Germany in the 1970’s. This model was originally produced in fiberglass in the 1960’s at Trabant in East Germany, as the DDR’s answer to the Panton chairs that became very popular at the other end of the Iron Curtain. This set however was produced on a later date in West-Germany for Horn Collection, using Baydur, a very durable polyurethane-duromer developed by Bayer, that could be used to mold furniture in any shape. The chairs are all labeled by the maker underneath the seating. The black lacquer shows some serious scratches and using marks, as shown in the pictures. The condition remains decent to good and the chairs are very comfortable and functional. They can be stacked as well.
