Coffee table by Tage Poulsen
This rare coffee table was designed and produced by Tage Poulsen in Denmark in the 1960’s. This table was made in quarter sawn white oak with brass detailing. The table has been treated with linseed oil giving it a rich brown colour. The table top has a groove cut out that can slide over the supports held up by the legs. You can also fold the top. Apart from the messing hinges that make folding possible, there’s not a single screw used for this table. It’s seven solid pieces of oak, fit together like a puzzle. Very nice grain on the oak. Some editions of this table have a linen bag under the top, but here it’s missing. Further this exceptional piece is in very good condition.

There’s little known about Tage Poulsen apart from that he was a designer and professor, born on 5 June 1910, in Holbæk, Denmark. He was known for his work in product design, particularly in the fields of furniture and interior design. His design philosophy typically focuses on functionality, simplicity, and timeless aesthetics. He worked in the Danish tradition of keeping things minimalist yet elegant, often using high-quality materials like wood, rope, leather, and metal to achieve a modern but enduring look.
While his name isn’t as globally recognized as some other designers, he is highly regarded in the Scandinavian design community, where clean lines and practical, user-friendly design are highly valued. His work aligns with the broader Scandinavian tradition of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
