Aksel Kjersgaard (1921–1997) was a Danish furniture designer and manufacturer renowned for his minimalist designs during the mid-century modern movement. Trained as cabinetmaker, he embarked on travels through Europe and Morocco and then he founded his own company, Aksel Kjersgaard A/S, in 1952. Three years later, the company began producing furniture like cabinets, dressers, consoles, and sideboards, characterized by clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic.
The use of beautiful wood grains such as rosewood and teak in Kjersgaard’s work, reflect the high quality and craftsmanship of Danish modernism. Famous designers he worked with were Kai Kristiansen in the 1950s and 1960s, and with Søren Nissen and Ebbe Gehl starting in the 1970s, both of whom had previously worked for Rud. Rasmussen in Copenhagen.
Today, Aksel Kjersgaard’s furniture is highly collectible, appreciated for its timeless design and exceptional quality. The company now sails under the name Naver Collection, offering pieces that honor the legacy of Danish craftsmanship.
