Cabinet by Rolf Middelboe (Sold)
This drawer cabinet designed by Rolf Middelboe was produced by Tranekær Furniture in Denmark in the 1970’s. The solid wood structure shows a magnificent assembly of pieces standing up straight on the top to create a checkerboard effect, sort of Middelboe’s signature if you will. In very good condition with only small using marks, as shown in the pictures.

Rolf Middelboe (1917 -1995) has worked with textiles, design and colouring during his professional years. It was only late in his career that he began to work with images as an expression.
His visual language is almost purely geometric, often with the use of translucent colour, whereby overtones and undertones intertwine in the final pattern or image. Middelboe was educated at an Arts and Crafts school in a time when Bauhaus became very influential in for the later development of the concepts of Danish design and functionalism. Bauhaus became a reference point in his own production. Especially in fabric printing, Middelboe’s work was seen as ‘groundbreaking’, especially in the 1950s and 1960s. He also designed furniture, often together with Gorm Lindum for producing companies like Tranekær Furniture.
